About the Building: Beth Sholom Synagogue is architecturally significant as one of the most important works of the great American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. It is one of a handful of Wright buildings singled out by the American Institute of Architects and the National Trust for Historic Preservation for their invaluable contribution to American culture. As Wright’s only commission for a synagogue and his only non- Christian ecclesiastical design, Beth Sholom Synagogue is unique among an already rarified group of Wright-conceived religious buildings. It also is significant within Wright’s long and distinguished career for the unusually collaborative relationship between Wright and Rabbi Mortimer J. Cohen.

The finished building is a striking religious design quite unlike any other. It is a benchmark in Wright’s career, mid-twentieth-century architectural trends, and in the story of American Judaism. The building was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2007.

About the Visitor Center: The visitor experience at Beth Sholom includes a tour of the Frank Lloyd Wright synagogue building and the engaging and educational exhibits of the Visitor Center. The Visitor Center was created by the Beth Sholom Synagogue Preservation Foundation as part of an ongoing effort to share this important building with a growing audience.
There are five exhibits, which contextualize Beth Sholom Synagogue within the framework of American architecture, Synagogue architecture and Frank Lloyd Wright’s career. The highlight of the experience is a documentary film narrated by Leonard Nimoy.
The lead designers were Picture Projects, working with Andrea Mason Design and Venturi, Scott Brown and Associates.

R8 Newtown line between Fox Chase and Newtown

Would your community be interested in supporting our effort to have SEPTA reopen the R8 Newtown line between Fox Chase and Newtown? We are working with Cheltenham township on this, which in our opinion would forestall the need to construct a large parking garage at Jenkintown. This would also alleviate the congestion on main line trains between Jenkintown and Fern Rock.
